Cynthia HutchinsonCynthia Hutchinson is the ExCELL Program Director. Ms. Hutchinson joined Virginia Commonwealth University in 2006 and served as coordinator and the main professional development provider for three Early Reading First projects. Ms. Hutchinson developed and taught a series of six early language and literacy graduate courses resulting in an Early Literacy Certificate for Virginia Commonwealth University.
In response to local school closings due to the pandemic, Ms. Hutchinson created an early childhood educational television program called Circle Time at Home that aired on the local Virginia Public Media station as an additional support for preschool and kindergarten children and their families. Ms. Hutchinson has served as a consultant for several local and state literacy-and early childhood-related projects and initiatives and currently serves on the Virginia Head State Association Board and community liaison on the Virginia State reading Association. Ms. Hutchinson earned an Educational Specialist degree in Reading Development at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia in 2016. Her interests include early language and literacy and preschool teacher professional development serving the needs of children and families from low-income urban communities. |
